Social Media Strategy Versus TacticsAs I’m sitting here in my garden writing this post to you, I’ve been pondering about the reason why Small Business owners say “Social Media Marketing” instead of “Social Relationships”. So I dug down into…

The meaning of Marketing:

[The action or business of promoting and selling products and services, including market research and advertising. ]

And;

The meaning of Social Media;

[Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. ]

Social is about building relationships with your current and potential audience, not hard selling and promoting every day. Only when your Media Strategy is “drawn out” and the specific goals met, you will only then be possible to implement the Marketing Tactics necessary to accomplish your company objectives.

One of the reasons why I love Jay Baer’s quote:

“Focus on how to be social, not on how to do social.”

Once the social relationship is established (and that will take you some time and patience! 😉 )…only then you can implement your small business Marketing Plan into your network marketing journey.

I came across a great post by Jeremiah Owyang, “The Difference between Strategy and Tactics” that I would like to share with all of you. It shows you a matrix and highlights the fact that both Strategy and Tactics need to go “hand and hand”. If you implement strategy without tactics, you are being reactive and not proactive. It is necessary to achieve the right balance between those two concepts.

Over the next weeks I am going to emphasize the importance of creating a Social Media Strategy Roadmap for your business and then dive into the execution of the strategy that should go along with your collective business goals. Together we are going to dive into the main foundations of building a Social Media Strategy until we reach the Social Media Tactics Implementation.

  • Vision

  • Mission

  • Goals, Objectives and Targets

  • Strategy

  • Tactics

In my view it is important that you realize the need for a Strategic “plan of attack” and identify the Marketing Tactics or Actions to achieve your business goals and your business will grow consistently.
